New Residents – Medical Services Plan (MSP)
On January 1, 2020, British Columbia eliminated MSP premiums for permanent residents.
Although there is no separate cost associated with MSP for permanent residents in our province, all BC residents must have a BC Personal Health Number and be enrolled in MSP regardless.
If you are moving to BC from another province, you will also need a BC Personal Health Number and to enrol in BC MSP.
New Residents – Goods and Services Tax Credit (GST)
To determine eligibility for GST payments, the Canada Revenue Agency may ask for information regarding your income prior to arriving in Canada. We recommend completing Form RC151, GST/HST Credit Application for Individuals Who Become Residents of Canada prior to that to minimise payment wait times while the CRA determines eligibility.
If you have children, Form RC66, Canada Child Benefits Application will need to be completed instead.
